Before wine tasting, we spent an hour in San Gimignano, a small town in Tuscany. It was SOO cute with cobblestone roads and a fantastic view of Tuscany’s countryside and plantations. I HAD THE BEST GELATO OF MY LIFE! Three scoops of raspberry, orange and chocolate were so creamy and delicious. YUM!
I had such a blast getting all dressed up with Cara, Nicole, and Alexis with our big floppy hats! We all said we were envisioning ourselves in the Parent Trap vineyards, when realistically we looked like the Housewives of Orange County. However, everyone loved our outfits so it was well worth the slight humiliation (at least for me…new experiences people).
The wine tasting was at a family-owned vineyard going back to the 1800s! It was really cool to see this trade being passed on and cared for by one family-it must keep them all so close.
We were laughing hysterically at everything! There were cats and chicken freely roaming around during the tasting. A crazy Italian man was teaching us how to hold the glass, swirl, sniff, and drink each wine the proper way as we ate cheese, crackers, and salami snacks on the side! It was so awesome and I’m so glad I got to experience this with my best friends.
For each different wine, one person at the table made a toast. It was a really special moment, for me at least, to hear my home friends be so honest and genuine about their love and appreciation for one other and this incredible travel experience. We were also profusely sweating while trying to stay classy, so that was a fun challenge.
Afterwards we stumbled upon a field of BEAUTIFUL SUNFLOWERS!! We frolicked through them and took so many pictures. It literally was a scene out of a movie…except it was my real life.
Takeaways from Tuscany: New eyes, new mind, new spirit, new soul.
