One month and a couple of days into living & working in Washington, DC, I’m finally taking a moment this morning to pause and reflect on how I actually feel post-grad life in a new city is going so far.
I am inspired by my best friend Lindsay’s amazing blog of her experiences living and teaching 2nd graders in JAPAN. That is a culture shock I don’t think I could comprehend as well as she does, but here’s my first attempt at wrapping my head around DC.
Washington, DC is beautiful. I am so lucky to live walking distance from this view at the Georgetown Waterfront. Depending on the day and time, this boardwalk is either peaceful and empty for Saturday morning yoga, or totally swamped with yachts (see below), tourists, restaurant goers, and runners taking in the serenity of the Potomac River and the city of Arlington across the way.
See that massive white building in the distance? Meet my neighbor: the world renowned John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. My apartment building is on the other side (how cool?!). One of these days I’ll take advantage of their free rooftop deck again like I did last summer with Mer and Grace. You can take the elevator up to the top for free and endulge in the most spectacular view of Arlington and DC.
While I don’t have enough time or energy to consistently go running every week, the times when I do I feel more like a tourist! My runs are an adventure with my eyes and mind glued to the incredible views. Great recommendation from my buddy Schultz to check out the massive steps behind the Lincoln Memorial looking out to Rosslyn, Virginia.
No matter how far my travels may take me, I will always know that I have love surrounding me at home too. My best friends of 12+ years gave me this bracelet, and I’m so blessed for their endless love and friendship.
