To continue my rant on instrumental songs, I'm giving "Sahib Teri Bandi" and Derek Trucks the shoutout they deserve.
Derek Trucks' musical career has been long and far reaching in his 36 years. Derek was a child prodigy at 11 mastering slide guitar, formed The Derek Trucks Band at 17, and officially joined the Allman Brothers Band at 20. (Hooooly crap!)
"Sahib Teri Bandi" is a Farsi phrase, and the 10 minute journey breathes a rich, cultural identity. From the melodic slide guitar, to the flute solos and tribal-sounding percussion, Sahib takes you to another world.
Peaks and valleys, peaks and valleys of musical intensity. They remind me of the emotional cycle life throws our way week after week. The improv handoffs somehow always come back to the main melody. I feel the same sense of comfort as when the rollercoaster of life settles back down into normalcy.
There is no need for lyrics here -- You'll be singing "Bah-do-dee-dum-da-DA-da" in no time. With this soul-wrenching tune blasting in your headphones or the car, it is impossible to not feel alive!
Since 2010, Trucks and his wife Susan Tedeschi perform southern blues rock as Tedeschi Trucks Band. An impressive group of 12 musicians, definitely give their most recent album Let me Get By a good listen.
